im not sure if you ever made a post about it but how was it meeting seb?

livebloggingmydescentintomadness:

Somehow I’ve been forgetting to make the post for over a month!! Thanks for reminding me!

So, it was pretty great, though naturally these things can often be a bit of a letdown considering how much you build it up in your head and how quickly it actually goes by as you’re rushed through the line. I only got a couple seconds of hugging him for the pic (and honestly, he was skinnier than I expected, I wanted to squish some beef ;_;), then there was the hour-long panel I could NOT hear at all from the back of the audience where I was sitting (need to have Words with whoever set up that sound system), and then I waited a while in the autograph line, and then that was……. an Experience.

So, I have a tiny heart tattooed on my wrist that Misha Collins drew on me, and I decided, hey, it’d be really cool if I got Seb to draw a little star next to it and I got that tattooed as well. You know, a star, his character’s primary symbol? Drawing a star free hand is difficult unless you do it in a single line (like this), but I figured that a single-line five-point star couldn’t be that hard, right? Not even Sebastian can fuck that up, right?

I underestimated him.

So I get to the front and I’m nervous as shit, obviously, he’s so cute and I love him so much and he’s right there, and he’s signing my photo op when I ask if he could draw a star on me, and the poor guy just hears ‘draw a star’ so he actually tries to draw a star on the photo, which, as he said, came out looking more like a shark. (I think he added the eye for that reason.)

So I’m like, “No, on my wrist, could you draw a star like this (I show him where I’ve drawn an example) on my wrist” and he just says, “I don’t know how to do that” and my brain just like grinds to a halt, because I literally did not factor into consideration the idea that a grown man might not have any idea how to scribble a star – particularly a man whose most famous character’s symbol is a star. The event guy next to him even went, “Like this,” grabbing a Sharpie and drawing one right on the tablecloth. Sebastian was still utterly confused, taking the Sharpie and trying to imitate it, and failing miserably.

Anyway, he tried, and this was the result.

I honestly don’t even know what to say about it… I’d put up a shitty “you tried” star, but it would be too ironic. You can see how he got off to a good start, and then…. ??? The pen seemed to fail as if in shame as he started going in random directions in a frenzied attempt to do as I’d asked. Bless his heart, he tried.

I would have kept trying, but I could tell that they wanted me to move on, so I just laughed and thanked him and left. At that point I was just mentally reeling, and staring at my wrist because I literally had an appointment with a tattoo artist and absolutely no idea what to do with this. I love the boy, but no way in hell was I getting this disaster (or the shark) permanently inked onto my body.

Long story short, I decided to get a proper Bucky star done and I absolutely love it, so all’s well that ends well.

And here’s my photo op, which I have to admit I’m self-conscious of because I don’t like how I look in it, but I guess I’ll share it anyway.

So that’s the story of how I met my adorable disaster man.

Traditional Celtic marriage vows, better than anything I’ve ever heard:

shrineart:

merlins-total-turnip-head:

You cannot possess me for I belong to myself
But while we both wish it, I give you that which is mine to give
You cannot command me, for I am a free person
But I shall serve you in those ways you require
and the honeycomb will taste sweeter coming from my hand.

But there’s more of it?

I pledge to you that yours will be the name I cry aloud in the night.
And the eyes into which I smile in the morning.
I pledge to you the first bite from my meat,
And the first drink from my cup.
I pledge to you my living and dying, equally in your care,
And tell no strangers our grievances.
This is my wedding vow to you.
This is a marriage of equals.

I just found out from @grubus that these aren’t traditional Celtic marriage vows…BUT, they were written by an American-Irish author, Morgan Llywelyn who has a really cool biography:

Let’s celebrate Celtic women authors, and give them credit for their words!

Can someone please tell me this was a pair that was trying to do the death spiral that mating birds of prey do, and somehow in the process they ended up stuck on a road sign.

Because if it is, this is definitely one of the funniest “Okay, maybe we WERE a little bit over our head when we started this…” moments.

I doubt it. One of these birds is a juvenile (the top) while the other is an adult (bottom). The juvenile would have no interest in mating.

Honestly when I see hawks doing stupid stuff 9/10 times its a harris hawk—this seriously just looks like one of those stupid hawks time. They are one of the only social raptors, so this leads to some funny things, like

Stacking

The harris hawk argument for stacking is “your back is less Pokey than a cactus so imma use it”

Not even falconers are safe…

They even hold hands

Please, what are you doing harris hawks, learn how to hawk

Edit: its also worth noting that the adult for sure is a falconry bird (note the jesses and transmitter on its leg) I have no idea if the juvenile is as well.

It still surprises me at how few people have seen Freak of the Week, and I love sharing it with friends because of the inevitable, “How the hell have I never seen this?” look of awe drawn out on their face.

And man, it really is gorgeous.

Directed by Juanjo Guarnido, it took the team about a year of hard work to hammer out this bloody masterpiece (which you can learn about in his video here) using a combination of 3D animation with the power of college interns  skill of a team of artists to painstakingly re-draw the 3D elements they wanted in 2D frame-by-frame, not to mention the post processing and… everything else.

Even though it came out in 2014, it doesn’t seem to have ever garnered the attention it truly deserves.

I really wanna drive this point home, so to give you an idea, Ghost by Mystery Skulls, animated by MysteryBen27 has 18,147,263 views.
Freak of the Week has only 2,271,121 views at the time I’m writing this.  That’s fucking depressing for something so … phenomenal.  I want more of this, and hell, maybe you do too.  But we’re not going to see anymore simply because the right people haven’t seen it.  In fact, it failed to reach a respectable level of Internet Popularity®, Juanjo himself even described it in the comments section as having ruined him because of how little attention it got.

So if you’re reading this and you’ve got some connections with a TV network or something, consider pulling some strings to get this video spoon-fed to the masses, because people ought to see this.  I’m sure Juanjo would be all too happy to oblige.  And hell, if you wanna buy the art book, you can get the link here for about $50.

Now, maybe you recognize the former Disney animator Juanjo Guarnido for his other work: Blacksad.

That I haven’t yet read but I TOTALLY NEED TO.

Look,

I guess I’m bringing up Freak of the Week because I was reading the comment section and, man, it kinda got me down.

Some of the best things things out there just haven’t been seen by the right people, I guess.  But I suppose it’s also a depressing statement on the culture of the internet that the video makes.

This is depressing. If you haven’t watched this video yet PLEASE do, I was in awe and fell instantly in love with it when I first saw it and just assumed something is fantastic and detailed would become an Internet hit …

Apparently not.

Well it should be, I hope this gets to the right people and the video gets the attention it rightfully deserves.
